As we leave World Wildlife Day behind us for another year, we need to remember that for many species, the only thing protecting them from the ever increasing threats from humanity are the rangers at the very frontline of conservation.
These heroes are out there working in the most extreme and dangerous conditions. What generally is not known are the ultimate sacrifices that these rangers are willing to make for conservation and tragically in the last week alone, ten rangers have died while on duty.
I am proud to be a member of the Game Rangers Association of Africa that is positively supporting Africa’s rangers. Many of the projects that I work on are carried out in partnership with this great organization. Together we are implementing projects that amongst other things assess ranger risk, train and mentor and improve their wellbeing. By supporting Africa’s rangers, we are supporting conservation of all species and priority landscapes!
