Around the world, the list of species at risk from illicit trade is endless from the smallest of insects and reptiles through to the iconic species such as elephant, rhino and tiger. Marine species are also hugely under threat and the global tourism market is often (sometimes unknowingly) complicit in furthering the over-exploitation of species. Sharks jaws are always popular finds amongst coastal tourist markets and will often include endangered species. It is our responsibility to the environment and the health of the planet to become fully aware of the impacts of our actions and we need to make very careful choices as to what we purchase as souvenirs from these markets as holiday makers.
