Two male African black oystercatchers challenge one another for territorial dominance as a female rests with bill tucked under her wing. These interactions take place on a daily basis during the summer breeding season. On Malgas Island in the West Coast National Park,South Africa, populations of oystercatchers have saturated the available breeding space and as a result tensions between males looking for breeding rites is high.
