The Overberg farmlands have provided good feeding and breeding grounds for South Africa's national bird, the blue crane. During October and November each year, the crane's begin to break away from the large flocks and pair up in preparation for breeding. Birds begin to bond by undertaking elaborate dances that includes much bowing and leaping high into the air.
