Prior to heading ashore for the night, an African penguin bathes and preens in a protected bay next to Bird Island in the Addo Elephant National Park. It was amazing watching the different characters of the penguins as they came ashore - there were the definite bullies that attacked every other penguin, the friendly ones that went and nuzzled against other penguins, the small slender ones, the big fat ones, the neatly kept and the real scruffy ones. Only through patience and watching do we see the true individuality of each wonderful animal!
